Gettysburg, Gettysburg, PA July 31, 2008 - The Gettysburg Championship and the Gettysburg Convention & Visitors Bureau announced an exclusive opportunity to participate in a Civil War Encampment during the three days of the Gettysburg Championship, an LPGA Duramed FUTURES Tour Event being held at The Links At Gettysburg August 22-24, 2008. The encampment is free to any ticketed person attending the Gettysburg Championship.

"This is a terrific way to combine your love of history with your passion for golf," said Duff Forsythe, Tournament Director. "This is the only Civil War Encampment available in the region after the July 4th holiday."

The encampment will be located between the 10th and 11th holes at The Links At Gettysburg and is easily accessible. Visitors will be treated to traditional food, music, activities and battle preparedness from the 22nd North Carolina Infantry. The 22nd North Carolina Infantry was part of Penders Division, Scales Brigade and is based in the National Military Park at historic Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

"We're really excited to be partnered again this year with the Gettysburg Championship to offer a rare glimpse into the lives of our Civil War men, women and families," added Norris Flowers, President of the Gettysburg Convention Center and Visitor's Bureau. "The Gettysburg Championship is a perfect setting to showcase our Civil War Reenactors and offer families an opportunity to learn about our past in an engaging and interactive way."

The LPGA Duramed FUTURES Tour has become the world's largest international women's developmental golf tours. In its 28th competitive season this year, the Tour has remained committed to developing LPGA stars of tomorrow and creating viable role models for youth today. The top-five money winners each season earn automatic exemptions for the LPGA Tour. The Gettysburg Championship plays an increasingly important role each year as one of the final stops on the Tour.

"Our tournament has become the crown jewel of the FUTURES Tour and as one of the last stops of the summer, an increasingly more important event for the 150 young women trying to make their way on to the LPGA Tour," added Forsythe, "The Links offers a challenging golf experience and the professionals on the FUTURES Tour have admired its difficulty and appreciated its beauty."

Forsythe noted that the week of the tournament, beginning Tuesday August 19, there are many events planned including a free youth golf clinic and a Pro-Am event in addition to the encampment. "This is truly a family-friendly event and I encourage everyone to come out and participate and have fun," Forsythe added.

Tickets are available online and at various locations in the region. Single day passes are $10 and three day passes are available for only $20. Military and Senior Citizen discounts are available.
